Manual Lymph Drainage
Enhance Healing and Reduce Swelling Naturally
Service Description
WHAT IS MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE? Manual lymph drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage technique targeting the lymphatic system to effectively drain excess fluid, enhancing lymphatic and immune function. Using rhythmic circular motions and light pressure, MLD reduces swelling, alleviates pain, prevents infection, and promotes natural healing. Lymphatic flow can stagnate due to various factors such as post-surgery swelling, chronic inflammation, lack of activity, stress, fatigue, emotional shock, advanced age, or improperly fitted bras. When circulation slows, swelling occurs, leading to toxin accumulation and decreased cell regeneration. CONDITIONS THAT BENEFIT FROM MLD: - Pre- & post-surgery (including cosmetic) - Post-bone fractures and cast removal - Surgical scars and burns - Sports injuries (sprains/strains) - Chronic pain conditions (sciatica, migraines) - Inflammatory conditions (sinusitis, bronchitis) - Edema and fatigue in the legs - Immune stimulation and detoxification - Relief from anxiety and insomnia - Pre-operative MLD helps prepare the lymphatic system for surgery. AFTER YOUR FIRST TREATMENT: Responses to MLD vary; many clients report relaxation and improved sleep, while some may experience increased energy. About 10% may experience detox reactions, such as headaches or body aches, typically lasting 12-48 hours. TREATMENT FREQUENCY: Treatment frequency depends on individual needs. Post-surgical clients usually start with weekly sessions for 3-4 weeks, then biweekly for another 4 weeks. For other reasons, three weekly appointments allow assessment of treatment efficacy. The goal is to gradually extend appointment intervals. AFTER PLASTIC SURGERY: MLD can start 1-2 weeks post surgery as long as there are no complications or infections. BENEFITS OF MLD: - Decreased bruising and faster healing - Reduced edema and swelling - Pain relief and reduced medication needs - Prevention of scar tissue and fibrosis - Infection prevention through improved lymphatic flow - Stress relief by relaxing the nervous system CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR MLD: Avoid MLD if experiencing acute cellulitis, untreated heart failure, active deep vein thrombosis, active cancer, or localized infection. Consult with both your therapist and doctor to ensure safe treatment.
